Fariidha is one of UMS students who is taking a two-year double degree program in Youngsan University, Korea. She is studying Civil Engineering focusing on transportation engineering. She chose to study in Korea because the transportation system in Korea is advanced and modern and she aspires to make a contribution to improve transportation in Indonesia. She left for Korea on August 30, 2017 and now she is taking a six-month Korean language class from September 2017 to February 2018 before starting her study. In her class there are other students from Vietnam, Singapore, Uzbekistan and China, so it is a very multicultural class. “Studying abroad has been one of my biggest dreams in my life because it will shape me into a better person by getting excellent education and understanding other culture and people. I know about Korean people and culture from watching Korean entertainment, so when I finally meet and have daily interaction with the people I am really excited. I learn to appreciate the differentt culture, customs and perspectives and to be more independent. Moreover, I learn to appreciate time. Korean people are disciplined in every aspect and they uphold the country’s regulations and laws because they love their country very much. I hope that Indonesian people, especially the young generation can have the same spirit”.
